Three ways to follow Jesus’ example on a daily basis

Bryant Golden Blog

“If someone claims, ‘I know him well!’ but doesn’t keep his commandments, he’s obviously a liar. His life doesn’t match his words. But the one who keeps God’s word is the person in whom we see God’s mature love. This is the only way to be sure we’re in God. Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived.”

  • 1 John 2:4-6 (MSG)

In this passage from John, he writes that anyone who claims to know God lives the same kind of life that Jesus lived. Now, let’s be realistic. Jesus was a perfect example of humanity at its finest, and none of us can live up to that. John knew that as well as anyone. However, when we strive to live like Him, we become closer to God in the process and become better versions of ourselves.

We should all make an effort to follow Jesus’ example on a daily basis. Even if you’re not a person of faith, you may find that these examples are beneficial for you.

1. Be humble

Living with pride can be harmful in many ways. For starters, pride elevates us to a position we can fall a long way from. This fall can wound us in ways we never knew we could be hurt. Practice humility, and learn how to view yourself as someone who is special in the eyes of God, but no more special than other people because of something you can do.

2. Serve others

Jesus lived a life of service. He constantly went out of His way to heal the sick, feed the hungry and share the Word of God. If we claim to want to live in His example, then we too should learn how to serve others.

This can be done in different ways. Serving may be simple acts of kindness for your neighbors, or it might be volunteering at a local homeless shelter. What are the different ways you can serve in your community? It might be time to try one of them out.

3. Pray

Jesus prayed to God frequently. This is a bit mind blowing considering He was of divinity Himself, yet prayer was important to Him. This is because prayer is essentially communication with God. It doesn’t have to be some big, formal thing.

We can be like Jesus and seek a daily relationship with God by praying on a regular basis. You may be surprised at how this opens up your spirit and improves your outlook on life.
