Three thoughts on how to improve your spiritual health in a material world

Bryant Golden Blog

In today’s world, it’s easy to get swept up in materialism. We work jobs so we can make money so we can buy things. That’s a great oversimplification, but you get the idea. We constantly focus on earning something so we can exchange it for something else.

This isn’t inherently bad or anything; it’s just the way the world works. However, in this system, it can be easy to lose sight of taking care of our spiritual health.

Whether you’re a Christian or someone who senses a lack of spirituality in the materialistic world, you should take some time to improve your spiritual health. Here are some steps that can help you get started:

1. Be intentional about your time with God

Before you can begin improving your spiritual health, it’s important to understand what your purpose is in doing this. For us here at Unfiltered Radio, being more spiritual means being more in touch with the Lord who created the universe and everything in it and who loves each of us very much.

If you want to improve your spiritual health, keep this goal in mind and make sure you create time and space for yourself to be intentional about spending time with God. This time might include reading the Bible, praying, or simply being quiet and reflecting on the presence of the Holy Spirit. Yeah, this might even look like meditating, which is totally fine for Christians to do.

2. Take care of your physical self

People frequently separate the spiritual self from the physical self, but these two sensations of being are more intertwined than you might think. When you eat well, exercise and abstain from harmful substances, you’re in better shape to take care of your spiritual and mental health.

Start thinking of your physical health, mental health and spiritual health as one and the same if you want to improve your spiritual health.

3. Find accountability

One of the beautiful things of Christianity is that we never have to be alone. We always have the Holy Spirit to turn toward in prayer and reflection for guidance. We also have people we can depend upon, like friends and family members, for accountability in our spiritual growth.

Find someone you trust and tell them your goals of improving your physical or spiritual health, and come up with ways they can help you remain accountable in reaching these goals.
