It’s Time To Surrender

Bryant Golden Blog

Are you paying attention to the stuff inside of you? It’s an indication of who or what has control of your heart. When this stuff begins to surface it is a warning that it’s time to surrender your heart back to God. If you don’t you may end up in a place in life where you’ve done irreplaceable damage.

Guard your heart

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it (Proverbs 4:23, NIV).” Everything flows from your heart. The way you parent, the way you interact with your partner, your coworkers, your friends, your in-laws, you get the idea. Your soul and heart make you who you are.

You are only as healthy as your heart is. Where your heart goes is where your life goes. What you pay attention to and what you think about ultimately determines what you become. So who or what has control over your heart?

What are you spending your time, finances, and resources on? If it’s God who you’ve surrendered your heart to then everything you do will reflect that.

It’s time to surrender

How do you surrender? By obeying the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37-38) to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind and then love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus reiterated the importance of love in John 13:34 when he said, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” When things get repeated pay attention. Jesus is dropping clues.

When we surrender to God we care about the people around us. Your words, your life, and the impact you have on other people will reflect his place in your heart. .

In Matthew 5:23-24, Jesus felt so strongly about our relationships with one another that he told his followers reconciliation took precedence over giving offerings to God. They were to seek out the person they had harmed and apologized before coming back to God and completing their offering. Friend, if you do not love the people around you all that other stuff you are doing won’t matter. Mistreating other people puts us at odds with God.

To surrender to God you love the people he created. Give God your heart and your behavior will mirror his love.
