Contemplating suicide is a dark, dark headspace to be living in. It can start off slowly. It can be a fleeting thought at first but grow into a deep desire as you continue to struggle with depression and feel like there is no way out.
Many Christians do not understand depression and how someone can arrive in this headspace. They may go as far as to say that people contemplate suicide because they don’t have enough faith or love for God. But we’re here to tell you today that God always loves you, no matter what, especially when you are in dark places and struggling with suicidal thoughts.
What would God say to someone in a dark place?
I’m absolutely convinced that nothing — nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable — absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
- Romans 8:38-39 (MSG)
It may sound cliche to say God loves you, but He really does. And have you ever thought about it in the way that Paul writes about it in this passage from Romans? Nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate us from God’s love. Not our darkest feelings. Not angels or demons or death itself can separate us from God’s love.
This is a powerful love that we can all lean into and embrace in our darkest moments.
