For each one should carry his own load. (Galatians 6:6)
Jesus taught the greatest commandment was to love others. Love is summarized throughout the New Testament as forgiveness and kindness. When does loving someone turn into enabling someone?
Paul wrote that “each one should carry his own load”, meaning we are each responsible for our own emotions, choices, and consequences. Love becomes enablement when we take the responsibility for someone’s emotions, choices, and consequences. We can only heal from our past when we own our past. We cannot do the hard work of healing for someone else. True love is giving them the kindness and the space to do it for themselves.
